The Lancaster Freebirds Wrestling Club is open to participants of all ages. It is a club affiliated with USA Wrestling and California USA Wrestling. Members are not required to attend the practice sessions in order to compete in tournaments, although it is highly recommended. Tournaments are held every weekend in various locations throughout the state and in Las Vegas. Wrestlers are expected to provide their own transportation to and from events (see tournament schedule). All wrestlers must hold a current USA Wrestling Competitor card and have it with them in order to compete. Additionally, they must also have a copy of their birth certificate or official identification with birth date in order to register at any tournament. To get a USA Wrestling card a wrestler must pay $30 for the card (plus processing fee if purchased online). This can be ordered through the club, purchased at the tournament site, or ordered online; an additional processing fee will be charged. Finally, wrestlers must have a permission to participate form signed by their parents. Membership in the Freebirds Wrestling Club costs $5 per person. This fee covers our club membership and insurance. USA Wrestling is the National Governing Body for the Sport of Wrestling in the United States and, as such, is its representative to the United States Olympic Committee. Simply, USA Wrestling is the central organization that coordinates amateur wrestling programs in the nation and works to create interest and participation in these programs. It is not the wild, or "off the top rope", stuff you might have seen on television. The many programs and activities conducted by USA Wrestling or the hundreds of chartered clubs, provide opportunities for youth and adults alike to gain an understanding and appreciation for the international styles of wrestling, Freestyle and Greco-Roman, and Folkstyle (scholastic and collegiate) which is the style practiced at high schools and colleges across the country. |
